PERSONAL PROFILE
I
live just outside Derby with my partner and have been in this area for about 28
years. I have been interested in photography for many years, something that I
picked up from my Dad who had a history of working in the photographic industry
and was considering photo reconnaissance with the R.A.F. before opting for the
Royal Engineers at the start of WW2.
I
work for a mental health charity for the majority of the week and a tutor for
the other part within adult education teaching photography and creative
woodwork. My other interest is playing bass in a punk covers band with a great
bunch of lads around Nottingham and Derby pubs and clubs.
My
first camera was a Kodak 127, of which I still have one now and I have used it
on many an occasion, the results giving a very aged and retro look. I then some
years later purchased my first SLR which was a Zenith E and built in typical
Russia way, very strong and heavy. I then progressed to a Cannon EOS 1000 which
lasted me for some years considering it came off roading and caving with me.
Then I went onto my first digital camera, an Olympus Camedia 740E and achieved
some good results but I came to realise that digital was not the media that I
wanted to pursue for my serious photography, especially black and white images.
I went back to film by purchasing first of all a Nikon F5 which is my main
camera, then a Mamiya RB67, a 1954 Voigtlander Vito II, a Nikon FM2n and the
only digital camera I now have is an Olympus Pen E-PL 1.
On
this site are a collection of images that reflect my interests which are mainly
railway, industrial and military. Also to be included will be studio work which
I alike to a style of Bob Carlos Clarke. Other photographer’s works that I
like are Henri Cartier Bresson, John Davies and Don McCullin. I use black and
white film as I prefer the image quality that this produces in depth, texture
and overall realism that I feel digital does not capture. I like my images to be
a true representation of what I am looking at. The films that I am using at the
moment are Ilford FP4 and T-Max 100 and for colour images I use Fuji Sensia and
Provia.
