WAR WEEKEND IMAGES

'Every year in October, the North Yorks Moors Railway turns back the clock to 1943 for one weekend, starting round about midday Friday until mid afternoon on the Sunday. The railway is invaded by re-enactors and battle groups from all over the country during this time and they bring with them their uniforms, civilian attire and very well restored equipment. Senarios are acted out like the air raids at Pickering station and at Le Visham the German re-enactors put on various displays which included this year a demonstration of the workings of the V1 flying bomb.

Why do this? Beside the interest in the war years, it is to remember the part that the railways played during the war and the men and women who ran them. Also it is a time to remember all those regardless of nationality who have died during so many conflicts since then, either military or civilian.'
